Do you believe in time travel? I do. There is a place in Bangalore that can take you to Rajasthan in few seconds as you enter the place. In fact, there are nine branches of the place all over the city. I have been to two of them, the mantra square, Malleshwaram branch and the Orion mall branch. Rajdhani is an authentic Rajasthani thali restaurant that serves Rajasthani and some Guajarati food. So, if you love these cuisines, then this is your place.

IMG_3288.JPG

I’ll have to give it up to this place for their hospitality. God! Are they even humans? How can they be so nice to their customers? From the moment you step in, they start with the folded hands Namaste, and go on to even assist you in washing your hands before the lunch! They are ever smiling and insist you eat more, just like your granny at home.

IMG_3287.JPG

The ambience is quite cozy and welcoming. It is a perfect setting for a family lunch. The butter milk that came first was tasty. It came in a huge tumbler and I couldn’t drink the entire thing. Then came the thali. Rajdhani is all about this one thali. It consists of many bhaji, vegetables and dal with a variety of Marwari breads. The food is entirely saatvik, so people who prefer spicy food may not like the dishes. Also, as its Rajasthani and Guajarati food, many of the dishes were sweet to taste. The thali is huge and consists of many little bowls containing the several dishes. The entire set up is so cute that I felt content by just looking at the thali.

IMG_20150906_155313.JPG

For me, the experience was new and mediocre. Can’t say the food was mind-blowing, but also can’t berate it by saying it was bad. It surely was a healthy plate of meal, but may be it was not my thali of food. Having said that, I do not regret going here because trying new cuisines is interesting and I just loved the essence of the place. I would give this place a 3 out of 5 stars.

Had heard a lot about this place, so couldn’t wait to go here. It was a Saturday noon. We had run late and it was already their closing time. I called for reservations and the staff was very courteous telling that they would reserve a table.

Tim Tai is one of the many fine eateries that you can find in Koramangala. It is a Deli that serves pan Asian cuisine and that’s what got me interested. The place is very colourful and cheery. Right from the board that’s set up in the beginning to the walls inside the place, everything is so bright and colourful. There is a lot of pink, yellow and green to make the place look fun and interesting. The ambience is surely the USP of this place.

We were given a comfortable table and as it was a Saturday, I was having a vegetarian lunch (sigh!!!) with my sisters. The staff were extra friendly and love places where the people smile, aren’t rude and help you out by suggesting what to eat. This is one such place.

We ordered apricot glazed cauliflower in noodle basket just because it sounded so beautiful. The noodle basket never came, but the cauliflowers were pretty good. They had this sweet tinge from the apricots. Then came the tofu chilli pepper with five spice salt. May be, the name had all the salt and that’s why it was missing in the dish. Could have added some more salt to please our Indian taste buds. For main course there was Thai chilli basil noodles. This thing was very oily. Also the essence of basil was too much. To go with it, we ordered tofu on wilted spinach with hot basil sauce. Again the thing was very oily. Dessert was a simple chocolate walnut brownie with vanilla ice-cream. This was the best thing that I ate that day.

Do not know if we ordered wrong or whether this place is only for non- vegetarian food, but I’ll have to say that I was a bit disappointed with the food. It was way too oily. Should try some seafood the next time. Will give it a 3 stars out of 5.

  • Seafood noodles
  • Mapo tofu
  • Banana leaf wrapped fish

Our locality was lacking a proper café from many years. Cloud café almost fulfills our wish. Well, almost. This is one place that you can go with your friends, sit for hours, play snooker and eat some junk food. Cloud café is exclusively for youngsters.

The ambience is lively and colourful. The décor is bright and funky. There are cubicles that give you privacy if you want to have a silent lunch. For others who like to have a taste of the view, you can opt for the tables to the left. The place is on the fourth floor, so they do have a glass wall that looks out to our huge city.

IMG_4557

The menu is also designed as per the requirements of the youngsters. There is Italian, Chinese, continental, north Indian and American. We had chicken lollipop which was crispy and delicious. Then came the BBQ chicken wings which had a tinge of sweetness in it. May be they had added honey. The butter chicken curry was a wrong order at a café. But, we were hungry and as south Indians, nothing satiates our hunger as much as rice does. The butter chicken was too mild in flavours and kind of sweetish. It came with plain white rice. At last came the spicy Cajun chicken burger. The burger quite good. We didn’t have the mood for desserts, so I can’t tell how they were.

As the place is very near to our house, I may go there sometime. I give a 3 out of 5 stars. If you live nearby, you can surely visit this place once.

I love monsoons. It is the time of the year when you can eat the oiliest, unhealthy and fattening food and still don’t regret it. May be it’s the chilly weather, cold breeze or just the boring weekends, you feel like eating everything desi and delicious. And I do not have to separately mention calorie loaded because when I say desi, it is certainly going to throw your diet regime out of the window. But, who is complaining when you have food in front of you?

IMG_4692

Last Sunday was a fun outing to the Nandi hills. Surprisingly there was no crowd and it was so much fun. I just love the long rides on the airport road. No traffic, no bumps on the road and the cold wind hitting your face, which is one thing you must certainly try when you are in Bengaluru.

For me, a trip to Nandi hills is never complete without having parathas while coming back. The Indian paratha company is on the service road to your right just before you take a left to get off the main road to go towards the Nandi hills.  I just love the look of that place. It is like straight out of a 1930’s cowboy movie. The all wooden building is so retro, yet so modern. There are seating arrangements both outside and inside the building. We sat inside because it was a bit sunny.

The place is super busy all the time because people tend to come from the city to enjoy their piping hot parathas. This is one place where you get the authentic North Indian parathas, served with pickle and curd. They have a variety of parathas ranging from aloo, cheese, paneer, gobi, mooli and so on. I especially liked their paneer paratha and aloo cheese paratha.

IMG_1907

A must try is of course their paratzza, a combination of paratha and pizza. It is the crowd puller in this place. Besides parathas, the place also serves a variety of cold drinks and mocktails. But, the only thing that people are here is for the parathas.

IMG_4763.JPG

The service is swift, curt and to the point. As the crowd is huge you do not get to sit back and relax if you are here on a weekend. On weekdays you can just relax and enjoy the view, cold drinks and food. The price is on the higher scale. I would give a 3.5 out of 5 stars.

This is our go-to pub when we have not planned anything for the evening, yet feel like going out. We both love the ambience of the place and their food and drinks too. The place is easy to find as it’s on one of the main roads of Malleshwaram. There are two more branches of 1522, one in Koramangala and the most recent one is in new BEL road. Valet parking is available and that is such a relief in itself.

The ambience of the pub is lively, dim lit and sort of cozy. Loud music is playing and on days when there is a major sports, there are televisions set up everywhere to watch the live screening. The deco is interesting with a theme of rock stars meet cowboy kind of a thing. Try and make reservations beforehand if you want some nice tables.

Coming to the drinks, the pub has numerous varieties of drinks that you can try out from. I just pick them randomly every time. Sometimes they are nice and sometimes they are horrible. Like the other day ordered something called as Thai sunset. It was horrible to say the least. Otherwise, all the drinks seem to be pretty good.

The finger foods are also mouth wateringly delicious. You must especially try out their devils chicken. It’s a super hit for sure. Both the vegetarian and non-vegetarian food are fine. Surprisingly even the main course consisting of Indian rice dishes are good in this pub. You get Chinese, Indian, Italian and Asian cuisine here.

This place has positive vibes to itself. I wouldn’t mind going here many times. I give this place a 4 out of 5 stars. You must visit this place any Sunday along with your friends, drink beer, watch sports and have a jolly good time. But remember to go here only when your team is winning or there are chances that your husband may want to leave in the middle because your team is losing (trust me its happened).

Ramzan food in Mosque road, Frazer town

What to look out for –

Festive food, biryani, Middle East cuisine, desserts and lots of non-veg.

Cost –

₹600 for two

Address

Frazer town, mosque road, Bangalore.

you are here

It is Ramzan and how can you miss the festive food that is served in the mosque road. For many years, mosque road in Frazer town has become synonym to tasty and authentic Muslim food. But, this feast is not just for the Muslims. In fact, most of the people enjoying the food when we visited the place were from other religions. Well, that is the power of food.

IMG_4385

It was a Sunday night and we were late. We reached Frazer town at 10:30 in the night. We were very hungry and thought that we wouldn’t be getting any food at this hour. But, as we neared the mosque road, we saw huge crowds. Was it almost midnight or just the beginning of the day? We couldn’t say because such was the enthusiasm of the crowd. There were people everywhere. Food stalls were erected in front of every hotel. You could find all kinds of food veg, non-veg and desserts. There are numerous restaurants and eateries lined up on this road and you can have a jolly good time by visiting each one of them and tasting all their food items.

IMG_4388

One thing you must do before going here is having a brief idea about the eateries and the food that they serve. If you do not know that, you will be lost. And that was our exact situation. We didn’t have an idea about the event so it took us by surprise when we saw so much food and crowd. When there is a overdose of food, you react in two ways, you either get sick or you just enjoy the feast. We were four of us in the group. Two felt sick, while the other two explored the various possibilities of food.

After spending a long weekend in Andhra Pradesh, I feel like writing about their food. The Andhra cuisine is unique and exclusive in a good way. It is filled with lots of spices, masalas, ingredients and taste. There is always variety, be it in starters right through the main course until the desserts. We all are familiar of Hyderabadi biryani. In fact we just love eating it. But, Andhra food is much more than that. In order to experience a typical telugu meal, you will have to visit one of the many Andhra style hotels in Bangalore. You will not have to search much because there are plenty of places that offer the Andhra food in our city. One such place is the Nandhana palace.

Nandhana palace has its branches all across Bangalore. There are 13 outlets of nandhana palace each in marathalli, koramangala, bannergatta road, new BEL road, kammanalli, indiranagar, rajajinagar, Nagarbhavi, rajarajeshwari nagar, JP nagar, Domlur, sahakar nagar and KR puram. I have been to four of these branches. While the Rajajinagar, Nagarbhavi and JP nagar branches were good, I had the worst food in Koramangala branch.

The ambience of this hotel is nothing fancy. It is the typical family restaurant wala feeling with brown, gold and beige colors eminent everywhere. The seating is comfortable. The Nagarbhavi branch also has a kid’s play area which is welcome. We do not want wailing babies while we are eating a silent lunch. You are served food on plates or plantain leaves according to your wish.

We first ordered the soups. All the soups were good, but the chicken soup was the best. Tangy, spicy and hot, it can wake up your taste buds and put them on duty instantly. Then came the starters – chicken wings, lemon chicken, chicken lollipop, pepper chicken, mutton nalli roast and baby corn Manchurian. Each one of the food items were extremely delicious. But, a special mention must be made of the nalli roast, pepper chicken and the wings. They were absolutely mind blowing.

After a vast spread of starters, you cannot risk ordering a lavish main course. So, the one thing that you must order in an Andhra restaurant is the Hyderabadi biryani. Come on guys, it’s almost mandatory. And, the biryani was also pretty good. On the whole, it was a 3.5 stars on 5. My only complaint with these people is, why do you not send the same quality food when we take away to our homes? The take away parcels are not at all tasty. So please give some attention to that part. Otherwise, it’s a good place to go when you are hungry for a wholesome meal.

Yes, we have heard it a thousand times but still ignore the fact. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and you must never skip your breakfast no matter how busy you are. I suggest that you enjoy a relaxed and lavish breakfast at least on Sundays if not every day. Here is a place where you can just walk in your pajamas and still have the best breakfast experience without people staring at you. So, for all those who love American breakfast this is an ideal place to fulfill your tummy fantasies.

IMG_0315 (1)

The hole in the wall café is easy to locate and the wide road gives you adequate space for parking. Unlike the name, the place is actually much bigger than what I had imagined. It is a two storied house that has been converted into an expedient café. The ambience is bright, fun and alive. Good music, green plants, book racks on the walls, comfy seating and a hungry crowd. What more do you need in a café. But, owing to its fame, the place is not easy to enter. We had to wait for 20 minutes on a Sunday morning. But, the place has some interesting wall hangings that kept me hooked.

lime and ginger drink

The first thing that we ordered was hot cocoa which was pretty good. Lime and ginger drink that came next was also very nice. But, mornings are for hot drinks and the hot cocoa was the best. Then we ordered pancakes with chocolate sauce and honey. The pancakes were soft, fluffy and yummy. Then came the Ferrero Rocher waffles. Delectable waffles decorated with fresh cream, chocolate chips and Ferrero Rocher chocolate. I swear, that was the best waffle that I have eaten. It reminded me of the waffles that I had eaten in Belgium. And finally, there was Sunday morning non veg breakfast. It consisted of boiled eggs and chicken layered with spicy mushrooms, capsicum, onions, tomatoes and cheese (yummmm). This was served with two brown bread slices and butter. Ill have to say that this was the best among the ordered food.

IMG_0337

Overall, it was a wholesome breakfast that left us happy and content. This is one place that you must go if you love American breakfast. I will give it 4 out of 5 stars. The ambience, service, food and hygiene were all up to the mark.

There is something about family dinners. Apart from the fun, love and the interesting conversations, there something else for a foodie like me. You get to try out new places that you are sure of not visiting if it was not for family dinners. Because, when you are going out with the entire family, proximity of the place is as much important if not more as the taste of the food. You cannot imagine to drag them all 15 km to eat the best burger in town. That you have to do alone. And for family dinners, there are places like sip and dine.

Located off the service road in Vijaynagar, this place was quite popular in its early days. I think one of the most important reasons for its success is the lack of other fine dining places nearby. People had to go here. But, the place used to give some great service and delicious food those days. Over time, I can’t help but notice the falling standards.

The place is extended to two floors. Both the floors are pleasantly decorated and have soothing instrumental music playing in the background. The ambience is cosy and welcoming. Although I have heard many of my friends complaining about the behavior of the staff, I have never experienced anything of such kind. The staff were pretty concerned and attentive. We had our seats and ordered our food.

They took quite some time to bring the food. The cocktails were regular and nothing fancy. For starters, we had egg chilly, crispy fried chicken, baby corn Manchurian and chicken 65. The most disappointing thing about their starters is that they all appeared to be same colour. It almost seemed like they used the same colour masala to cook up each of the dishes. The cooks of sip and dine must make the food much more presentable and appealing. Also, please STOP adding so much colour to your food. It is dangerous for the health. Taste wise, nothing was quite extraordinary. The crispy chicken was good though.

Main course was Hyderabadi biryani which was tasty. The other time we had ordered neer dosa which was actually very good along with their egg masala. Their fishes are also well done. We skipped dessert because I have decided I’ll eat desserts only when the menu interests me. Over all, a good place with average food. I will give it a 3 out of 5 stars. Go here when you have no other option.

All the vegetarians, hear me out! Here is a place that serves genuine vegetarian food. 1947 is a well-known chain of restaurants that serve you some delectable food that does not contain meat or eggs. The last time we had been to 1947 Rajajinagar branch was to celebrate the completion of 100 days of our marriage (and we still manage to be together!). We had opted for a la carte then, and I’ll have to say that the place seemed a bit expensive for the food it served.

unnamed

So, when my cousin suggested that we go out for a vegetarian lunch to 1947, I thought there will be nothing new. But, the place proved me wrong. This time we went to the Rajarajeshwari nagar branch. There are five branches of the place in Bangalore – Rajaji nagar, Rajarajeshwari nagar, Malleshwaram, Jayanagar and Banashankari. The place is quite spacious. The décor is minimal and has that ideal “family restaurant” wala feeling. there are some pictures and paintings related to the independence day owing to the place’s name. the overall ambiance is positive. Comfortable chairs, wide tables and enough space to go around filling your plate. Yes, it was a buffet.

IMG_3602

When my cousin said it was a buffet, my heart sank. This is because, most of the places in Bangalore (I assume in other places too) do not serve the same kind of food for buffet and a la carte. Whether it is the quality of the food, taste or the presentation, we can see that a la carte beats buffet all the time except for some places. I will have to say that this is one such exception. The place had a decent amount of food on its buffet menu. Though the list was not too long, whatever was presented was actually delicious.

IMG_3553

We began with the tomato soup. Though it is the most basic of all the eatables that the hotels can offer, most of them get it wrong. 1947 makes some yummy soups. For the starters, there was hara bhara kebabs, aloo ke tukde, paneer tikka laal mirch. All of them were good. Especially the paneer, it was so soft and succulent that I had two helpings. The chatwala came to each table along with his mobile chaat stall and took orders to serve them then and there. Both the pani puri and sev puri were nice. Then came the cheese macaroni pasta.

IMG_3554

IMG_3581

Salad section consisted of fruits, vegetables, corn and other salads. I liked the corn and pineapple salad that had mayonnaise sauce in it. For main course there were various indian breads that you will be served according to your preference. We opted for butter kulchas. It was eaten with Kashmiri dum loo, dal makhani, panner butter masala and pindi chole. The chawal ki dawat or the rice menu consisted of a vegetable pulao, white rice with rasam and curd rice that was presented in cute little cups. There was also hakka noodles with chilly sauce in the oriental counter, but we skipped it.

IMG_3557

IMG_3561

After this hefty dinner, we still managed to taste the desserts. There was kheer, Shahi tukda and rabdi for dessert. We ended the dinner with the flavour of the season – mango ice cream. I have to admit that it was a memorable dinner. Such a wide variety to choose from and each of the food items was very tasty and beautifully presented. I will give a 4 out of 5 stars for this buffet.
